Distribution of digoxin in the human heart.

چکیده
DATA defining the intramyocardial distribution of digoxin and its relationship to serum levels are lacking primarily owing to the limitation of an adequate supply of myocardial tissue for study. By using the recipient heart removed at the time of cardiac transplantation a supply of myocardial tissue is realized for more definitive studies of the distribution of digoxin, as reported in this study. Although the cardiac receptors which mediate the pharmacological effect of the cardiac glycosides have neither been fully isolated nor fully identified, evidence suggests that the sodium potassium-activated adenosine triphosphatase, (Na+, K+)-ATPase, plays a role in the mechanism of action of the cardiac glycosides (Akera, Larsen and Brody, 1970; Besch et al., 1970). In this study, we have identified this enzyme in a microsomal fraction of the heart and measured the activity of the enzyme in vivo and to varying concentration of digoxin in vitro. Furthermore, patients undergoing transplantation in this study had end-stage cardiac disease due either to severe ischaemic heart disease or cardiomyopathy; we have, therefore, correlated the effects of cardiac histology with the distribution of digoxin in the various chambers of the heart, both on a subcellular and enzymatic level.

Inspection of Digoxin level in cardiac heart failure patients refer to Taemin Ejtemai and Shohadaye Ashaer clinic
Background: Heart failure is one of the common cardiovascular diseases and digoxin has the positive effect on it. But unfortunately in spite of its positive effect on heart failure therapeutic and toxic level of it in patients is different and close to each other. The aim of this research was determination of digoxin serum level in failur heart patients. Materials and methods: In this cros...
متن کاملAssessment of Abnormal Serum Digoxin Concentration
ABSTRACT Cardiac glycosides have been used in the management of heart failure for more than 200 years and remain the only drug currently available for Long-term ambulatory use that have positive inotropic effect. The relatively narrow therapeutic- index of cardiac glycosides renders them particularly difficult to use, and the clinician should have a detailed understanding of the actions and ph...
متن کاملCytotoxic Effects of Digoxin on Mesenchymal Stem Cells: An in Vitro Study
Introduction: Cardiac glycosides such as digoxin or digitoxin are the natural products that are traditionally used to increase cardiac contractile force in patients with heart failure and cardiac arrhythmias. It has been shown that digoxin can directly inhibit the cell proliferation and lead to cell apoptosis. Present study was conducted to analyze the effect of digoxin in the cohorts of ...
متن کاملIndependent Effect of Digoxin in Preventing Atrial Fibrillation in High Risk Patients after CABG Surgery
Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is one of the most common arrhythmias after coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. AF can result in hemodynamic instability, thromboembolic events, increase the perioperative myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, stroke, more length of hospital stay (LOHS) and cost of treatment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the independent effect of...

Introduction & Objective:Cardiac glycosids are the oldest drugs in congestive heart failure. Digoxin one of this class drugs has widespread use Today. Because the therapeutic index of this drug is small, the change in kintic of drug induce change in serum level of drug and can be dangerous. The aim of this study was evaluation of serum level of digoxin in hospitalized patients. Materials & Met...
